Tarah Trammell has rented this apartment for three months, and shares it with her sweet dog, Dolly: Leaving my home in Louisville after a divorce, I found a fresh start in Chicago. Downscaling to an urban apartment, I embraced its modern charm and minimalistic design. The city’s vibrancy outside my window mirrored my personal journey of reinvention. In this way, I discovered a new community and created a welcoming space for old and new friends alike, celebrating the beauty of transformation and resilience in the heart of the city.

My identity is reflected in every corner of my home, with carefully chosen furnishings, artwork, and personal touches that express who I am and what brings me joy.

Describe your home’s style in five words or fewer: Natural, minimalist, contemporary, urban.

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room has to be the main living space, which conveniently encompasses my living, dining, and kitchen areas. It’s versatile and welcoming. I can cook, host friends for dinners, and relax with a good book or a glass of wine. It’s definitely the heart of my home and where memories are made. Whether it’s savoring a delicious meal, sharing stories with friends, or simply enjoying the view of the city lights, this room encapsulates the essence of cozy urban living in the best way.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Being the huge Kelly Wearstler fan that I am, I recently purchased the Armato table lamp from Visual Comfort. It’s absolutely stunning and I know it’s a piece I’ll always love.

Any advice for creating a home you love? The most important factor in creating a home you love is ensuring that you genuinely love your space. While design trends can be inspiring, feeling happy and at peace in your home is paramount.

Your space should be a reflection of your personality, your unique tastes, and the things that bring you joy. Don’t be afraid to break free from trends and embrace what truly resonates with you. Ultimately, a home you love is one that feels like your sanctuary, a place where you can be yourself, and where you find comfort, happiness, and inspiration.
