Ivy Niu lives here with her husband, Max, and their chiweenie (sausage x chi), Peanut: Although it’s technically three bedrooms, the space is small. But just right for us three! Max and I are both artists so we are picky about what we display and bring into our space. We love color, but in a curated way. We love concrete (floors!), light wood, and clever color combos!
We have a lot of art up on the walls. That’s one of the reasons we have kept the paint white, so the art shines. The art we bring in is reflective of what we are drawn to, and inspiration for our own work as designers. We have also made the home very “Peanut-friendly”! We have made small ramps going up the couch and our bed so that she doesn’t hurt her little sausage-y back. Color-palette-wise, we like to pare back the color with light wooden textures and the concrete floors.
Describe your home’s style in five words or fewer: Curated color. Bauhaus.
What is your favorite room and why? Favorite room will have to be the living room! We get most of our compliments on our curtains. It was custom made for the space and adds so much character to the house. They are semi sheer to let the light into the open space. Our dining room, kitchen, and living room are all-in-one, really. So from any place you stand, you can see the beautiful colors of the curtains. It’s almost like a big piece of artwork in itself!
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing we brought in to the home was some more artwork. We love our Tintin poster. It was a collaboration between Tintin and a brand of orange juice. A very cool vintage advertisement!
