If you’re like me, you probably have a stash of faux pumpkins sitting around, waiting to be jazzed up for the season. Today, I’m sharing an innovative way to give those pumpkins a fresh, unique twist using seasonal napkins. This DIY project is as delightful as it sounds, and I promise, it’s simpler than you might think!

Steps to Create Your Napkin-Adorned Pumpkin:

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Lay down some newspaper or a drop cloth to protect your working surface from any Mod Podge spills.
  2. Pre-Soak the Pumpkin: Before anything else, give your faux pumpkin a light coating with the Mod Podge spray-on. This helps the napkin adhere better and prepares the pumpkin’s surface.
  3. Cut Your Napkin: Depending on your design preference, cut or tear the napkin into the desired shapes or patterns. You can go for full coverage or just strategic placements, whatever speaks to your style.
  4. Application: Once your pumpkin has its spray-on base, take a paintbrush or sponge applicator and apply a generous layer of the traditional Mod Podge onto a small section of the pumpkin. Place a piece of the napkin onto the wet Mod Podge area, smoothing it out and ensuring it nestles into the pumpkin’s grooves.
  5. Layer and Repeat: Continue the above step until your pumpkin is covered to your liking. You can overlap the napkin pieces for a more layered look.
  6. Seal the Deal: Once your napkin pieces are in place, gently brush a final coat of Mod Podge over the entire pumpkin. This will seal the napkin pieces and give your pumpkin a lovely finish.
  7. Let it Set: Allow your pumpkin to dry completely. Depending on the amount of Mod Podge used and the room’s humidity, this could take several hours. I recommend letting it sit overnight just to be sure.
  8. Showcase Your Creation: Once dry, proudly display your revamped pumpkin as a table topper or anywhere you’d like a touch of autumn charm. When friends and family come over, they’ll surely be impressed by the attention to detail, especially if your pumpkin matches the napkins for the dinner table!
