As someone who has always wanted a pet for the sake of dressing them up in a little outfit, this vintage decoration just might be the answer to my prayers. Much like the reemergence of the Lenox Spice Village and pastel front doors, this playful ’80s trend is embraced by grandmas and Gen Zers alike. At the intersection of kitschy and classic lives our new favorite decor craze: the beloved porch goose.

Originating in the Midwest, porch geese were first made as cement lawn ornaments to withstand all types of weather. Unlike plastic lawn flamingos, porch geese are so sturdy that they have no trouble surviving the chaos of irregular weather patterns. Tornadoes, heat waves, and snow storms are no match for a small cement goose wearing a pumpkin costume.

The term “porch goose” exploded in popularity beginning in late July, following multiple TikTok users showing off seasonal outfits and theming them to pop culture trends, going so far as to sew and crochet custom goose sweaters and bikinis for maximum effect.

Fans of the trend have searched Facebook Marketplace, vintage markets, and their own family heirlooms in the hopes of finding the viral collectible gear. Although it’s most rewarding to come across a goose organically, Miles Kimball sells new porch geese for $35, as well as over 60 custom outfits ranging in price from $19.99 to 34.99.

Porch geese are the ultimate decor piece for people who want to personalize their homes but don’t want to commit to large-scale projects. Their outfits are interchangeable and take up very little storage space for renters or anyone looking to downsize on their seasonal decor. So go ahead, take a gander!
