When it comes to your bathroom, creating an inviting and functional space is a must, and that begins with the vanity. It’s not just the storage space (or lack thereof) that you have to think about; it’s also the counters and the sink itself. Bathroom sinks are high-contact areas that require daily elbow grease to keep clean and sanitized. And, depending on the type of sink you have, some may be harder to clean than others.

One type of sink that is a great choice in smaller bathrooms and is relatively affordable is a vessel sink. Unlike traditional drop-in or undermount sinks, vessel sinks actually sit right on top of the countertop. These above-counter basins are installed directly over the drain hole. Because they’re generally easy to install, these sinks are also easy to swap out or replace if you’re looking for an instant bathroom upgrade.

However, the biggest con to installing a vessel sink has to be the maintenance. They can be difficult to clean because both the interior and exterior of the sink are exposed (making them a smart option in bathrooms that aren’t used as frequently, like a powder room or guest bathroom). But, their small size also makes them a great choice for compact spaces.

Vessel sinks are an easy way to customize and add style to your bathroom. From stone and glass, to metal and porcelain, there are tons of different options at varying price points. I’ve rounded up 10 of my favorites below.
