I’m always on the hunt for unique simple crafts to liven up my home with a customizable feel. I absolutely love the classic sugared fruit ornaments. They look amazing on the tree, in a bowl, and everywhere in-between. They come in all different shapes and sizes, I have been collecting faux fruit all year long to make this DIY plentiful. This is a great family-friendly DIY, you only need a few ingredients and it’s a lot of fun. These sweet little decorations are not only beautiful additions to the tree but also make for a fun seasonal activity to do with friends and family.
For this project, you’ll need:
- faux fruits
- paint brush
- matte mod podge
- embossing powder
There are a few varieties of embossing powder you can use for this DIY. You can find all of supplies needed for this DIY in my Amazon Shop (link). We used a mixture of clear and white, there is also a more sparkling powder. Best of all, the ingredients are inexpensive and require no special skills or tools. I hope you’ll consider giving this craft a try this season. I promise it will become a treasured new tradition for your home, just as it has become for mine.
The process is simple.
- Use a paintbrush to coat the faux fruit with a layer of mod podge, covering it completely.
- While still wet, dip the fruit into the embossing powder to coat. Tap off any excess powder and allow to dry fully according to mod podge instructions. The powder will harden into a sugary coat once dry.
- For a polished finish, apply a second coat of mod podge over the top and let dry.
