I haven’t always been a fan of linen sheets — in fact, I once swore up and down that I would only stick to cotton — but slowly, over time, I began to see the error of my ways. I’m historically a cold pillow kind of gal, and the crisp feel of percale is something I’ve always valued. But after sleeping on linen sheets from time to time, I came to realize that they’re a different beast entirely, and instead of craving my cotton sheets, I grew to love the casual softness and gentle heft of linen. Then, before I knew it, my closet was evenly split between cotton and linen — who was I?

As a home writer and editor, I’ve tested more than my fair share of sheets and bedding, so I’ve come to be pretty particular about what I’ll sleep on. That’s why I was surprised when a set of linen sheets from a brand I hadn’t heard of quickly became the most frequently used in my bedding rotation — and even better, they’re currently 20% off during a major Black Friday sale.

What’s so great about the April Notes Linen Sheet Set?

April Notes, a Lithuania-based brand that produces linen textiles, makes the majority of their pieces on-demand in order to reduce textile waste and minimize overproduction. Currently, they sell linen bedding (sheets, duvet covers, shams) and kitchen items (aprons, napkins, tablecloths), as well as bath towels, custom-embroidered robes, and throw blankets.

So far, I’ve been very impressed with the quality of the linen sheets, as they were soft directly out of the package and even softer after the first wash. I consider this a very good sign for softness to come, as a lot of linen can feel very stiff and scratchy for the first few washes. Having slept on these sheets for upwards of two months now, I can say that the quality and softness is comparable to my longtime favorite brands, Brooklinen and Boll & Branch

The moss colorway I have also happens to match the green hue of my bedroom walls perfectly, and the sheets coordinate with my existing striped quilt. The sheet sets and duvet covers are also available in a sandy yellow, muted rose, creamy white, neutral beige, light almond, and a beige stripe, and all of these hues would be easily coordinated with one another. The saturated green has remained impressively colorfast after frequent laundering.

Possibly my favorite part about these sheets is actually how taut the fitted sheet remains on the mattress. I’ve had issues with linen sheets in the past being too large for my very standard queen mattress, and I loathe the feeling of sheets balled under me in the night. Because linen has a tendency to get rumply as it is, the tautness of the fitted sheet is helpful in making the bed look more presentable when I pull the quilt and duvet down while making it.

Even though I was once a cotton-only bedding person, after a few months of sleeping on, washing, and loving the color of these sheets, I can safely say that I’m both a linen and April Notes convert.
